Most couples pray that their big day will be blessed with blue skies and sunshine. However, while a bit of rain usually won't dampen the spirits of a wedding party, this summer's floods have put paid to the marriage plans of one rather disappointed young couple.
Annie Southam, 25, and Philip Burgess, 29, had planned to tie the knot in Tewkesbury, Gloucester but following the appalling floods which have wreaked havoc across the country, the bride and groom weren't even able to leave their different hotels for the ceremony as the surrounding roads were under water.
As well as having to scrap their £15,000 wedding, the unfortunate lovebirds have also lost the cash they paid for their honeymoon as they failed to buy travel insurance (a lesson for us all).
Says a deflated Philip Burgess, (who remains single, girls!), "We had the full works booked – a hog roast, a sitdown meal for more than 100 guests, even a string quartet."
Bet the hog was the relieved.
