£1billion Charity Donation By Scotland’s Richest Man

hunter.jpgWho says the Scottish are tight? Sir Tom Hunter, former owner of the Sports Division sports chain and Scotland’s richest man, certainly isn’t.

The self-made billionaire has pledged to give away at least £1billion to charity, making it the single largest philanthropic commitment made by a Briton.

Hunter, who started off by selling trainers out of the back of his van in the mid-eighties, currently ranks at no. 60 in the UK rich list, having amassed a fortune of around £1.05billion.

Hunter says: “There is more great wealth in fewer hands than ever before in history.

“My own personal belief is that with great wealth comes great responsibility. We've got all the material, goals have all been settled some time ago. So now the philanthropy is the real motivator to continue to make money.”

Which is all wonderful and refreshing. But the fact that he is being so generous despite being so rich, somehow makes me want to hate him even more.

Which is wrong, isn’t it?
